The Atlas Cross Sport is a new model for 2020. Based on the larger seven-seat Atlas, the Cross Sport is a five-seat model that replaces the Touareg as VW's smaller mid-size offering.
Available Trims
Volkswagen offers the Atlas Cross Sport in Trendline, Comfortline, and Execline trims. The first two are standard with a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder engine. A 3.6L V6 is optional in Comfortline and standard in Execline. Both engines use an 8-speed automatic transmission and VW's 4Motion AWD.
Standard Features
Atlas Cross Sport Trendline models come with cruise control, a six-speaker stereo with a 6.5-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, one USB-C input, auto on/off LED headlights, LED taillights, 18-inch wheels and tires, silver roof rails, heated side mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, heated windshield washer nozzles, heated front seats with manual adjustments, air conditioning, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and cloth upholstery.
The standard safety package comprises forward collision detection with automatic braking and pedestrian detection, tire pressure monitoring and blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert.
Comfortline trim adds adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors, passive keyless entry, an 8.0-inch infotainment display, remote engine start, a hands-free power tailgate, satellite radio, four standard USB ports, adaptive headlights, cornering lights, a panoramic sunroof, 2-way driver lumbar, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone automatic climate control, footwell lighting, and leatherette upholstery.
Finally, Execline trim adds park assist, a multi-function camera with distance sensor, 360-degree exterior camera views, lane keep assist, road sign recognition, automatic high beams, navigation, a 12-speaker stereo, a digital gauge cluster, 20-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, 8-way power front seats, heated rear seats, ventilated front sport seats, second-row sun shades, interior ambient lighting, leather upholstery, and a 115-volt power outlet.
Key Options
Execline trim can be optioned with an R-Line package of 21-inch wheels, steel pedals, trim-specific exterior cues, and a sport steering wheel.
Fuel Economy
Volkswagen's fuel consumption estimates are 12.8/10.4 L/100 km (city/highway) with the four-cylinder engine. As of this writing, figures for the V6 are not available, but we estimate they will be close to 13.5/10.5 L/100 km (city/highway).
Competition
The Atlas Cross Sport gives VW a vehicle to go up against the Honda Passport, Chevrolet's Blazer, the Ford Edge, and Subaru's Outback.
